Section 53 of Royal Legislative Decree 2/2011, of 5 September, approving the Amendment of the Consolidated Text of the State Ports and Merchant Navy Act, states that “in order to establish the development model and the strategic positioning of the Port Authority, the latter may draw up a Strategic Plan regarding the ports within its competence, which will include, at least, an analysis and diagnosis of the current situation, the definition of the strategic lines and objectives, the criteria for action and the action plan".

The contracting process is currently underway for the "Advisory Service for the Formulation, Evaluation and Communication of Strategic Plan of the Port of A Coruña".

Its strategic objectives, by perspective, are originally as follows:

The Port Authority Integrated Management System was designed as an interrelated system of processes to improve quality (to be understood as continuous improvement in meeting the requirements and expectations of our customers and users regarding access to and use of general and port services and taking advantage of the public domain’s concessions and permits), environmental protection and reducing occupational and health and safety risks in our processes, thereby contributing to increasing the satisfaction of our stakeholders.

The scope of our Integrated Management System includes the following activities carried out by the Port Authority, both in the inner and outer port: providing general services and managing port services. Management of the execution of works in the port area. Management of the use of the public port domain.

As a framework for these activities and continuous improvement in their execution, the Integrated Management System Policy establishes the following commitments:

  •  To improve the range of port infrastructure and services, as well as navigation aids, by taking into consideration the expectations of all stakeholders.

  • To focus our management on prevention, both of defects in the service provision, in environmental pollution and in safety and health at work by adopting environmental programs for each environmental aspect and safety inspection programmes.

  • To respect and comply with the applicable legal requirements in any legal area, as well as any other commitment taken on.

  • To include the principle of continuous improvement in the management of our activities, by defining annual objectives intended to provide ecologically efficient services to improve competitiveness, preserve the natural resources in the area of the port and the safety and health of the workers.

  • To promote the involvement of all members of the organisation and the port community in achieving our objectives through training plans and awareness raising.

  • To take the initiative in implementing communications channels with the port community, government services, social and economic agents and society in general in order to report on the management of these environmental aspects and the commitments taken on in the area of ESG.
