School visits
We invite schools to register for the Port of A Coruña Visiting Programme in the 2024-2025 school year.
Come and get to know the Port of A Coruña
The Port Authority of A Coruña, in order to facilitate links between the city and its port, is offering school students the possibility of making educational visits to its facilities so that they can find out about the work done and the jobs in the Inner Port and the importance of these port activities for the social and economic development of the city.
The visits, which are free and must be booked in advance, are guided tours led by specialist personnel intended for students in Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, Vocational Training, Upper Secondary Education, etc.. They take place in the morning and have a duration of 45 minutes for nursery school students and 90 minutes for all others. The visits will be made by bus and only one bus is permitted per visit, regardless of the number of seats on board. The school will arrange for the bus. Under no circumstances will visits be permitted without a bus.
During the visit, the students will tour the various areas of the Inner Port of A Coruña and visit the fish market, where they leave the bus and tour the interior on foot, visiting a room where they will take part in an educational activity simulating an auction and then walk through the exporters’ stores and the auction rooms, accompanied by personnel from the fish market and the port visit programme guide.
During the tour, they learn some basic concepts about port operations, such as the type of traffic and ships it receives, the history of the port and its contribution to the growth of the city, and its responsibility to combat the effects on the environment caused by its activities.
Should you wish to visit the Outer Port of A Coruña, only for students of Upper Secondary education and Vocational Training, please contact us at this e-mail address visitasescolares@puertocoruna.com, giving the name of the school, date requested and the number of students.
These visits will take place between April and October.
To help teachers to prepare for the visit, or for subsequent work in class, the Port Authority offers educational materials suitable for the different educational levels (which can be downloaded from the links at the foot of this page), and an educational guide that explains in detail the content and objectives of the visit. Activity Book I has very basic content designed for nursery school and lower primary school students, Activity Book II is for upper primary and the first two years of Lower Secondary Education, Activity Book III is for the last two years of Lower Secondary Education, and Activity Book IV is for Upper Secondary Education and Vocational Training students. Lastly, Activity Book V focuses on visits to the Outer Port of A Coruña.
