Presentation by the president of the Port Authority of A Coruña
Mr. Martín Fernández Prado
The Port Authority of A Coruña is facing important challenges that will mark the future of the port and the city itself in the coming years. The development of the outer dock of Punta Langosteira, the transfer of traffic to the new facilities and the consequent integration of the inner docks into the urban fabric are an exciting process, crucial in the future of A Coruña, Arteixo and the whole metropolitan area which we at the Port Authority assume with the utmost responsibility and a sincere commitment to the benefit of the citizens.
A Coruña has always grown with its port. When the port grew economically, the city grew socially, economically and culturally, we only have to review the history, and nowadays we must build a new stage of this common success story.
The Outer Port of A Coruña in Arteixo offers the opportunity to promote a new cycle of growth. Its infrastructures and facilities make it a key element to boost the industrial progress of the metropolitan area. Punta Langosteira offers two million square meters of land area, drafts of over 20 meters and a strategic location on the maritime routes, very favorable conditions for port activity, and therefore we will continue to promote current business proposals and those that we may receive, in the same way as in the inner docks.
Because of this potential, Langosteira has already been able to attract relevant investments from our operators, and our mission as an institution is to accompany them and facilitate the arrival of new companies, completing its connectivity and all the necessary equipment, and positioning the port in the emerging sectors and future trends at a global level, especially the offshore wind and renewable molecule hub.
In the inland port, another historic opportunity is opening up. In addition to maintaining certain clean goods and activities such as fishing, cruises and nautical activities, we are initiating the process of transforming the maritime façade, with the opening of the port lands to new public uses.
In all this path of urban and port redevelopment, to enhance our activity, the collaboration and consensus of the various public institutions will be crucial as described in the Coruña Marítima project. It will be the best guarantee for the fulfillment of the acquired commitments and to face the future with optimism, on a solid base. In this way, it will be an opportunity to promote economic revival, innovation and job creation, bringing the city together to generate motivation and enthusiasm for the future.
