Among the governance criteria established by the European Commission and Parliament for gauging the sustainability of an organisation is accountability, along with, transparency , participation and cooperation.

A Coruña was the first port in Europe to publish, in 2007, a sustainability report that, after an inspection by Det Norske Veritas BA, met the requirements for the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) application level A+. Since then, the Port Authority of A Coruña continuously published its Sustainability Reports, following the principles of the GRI up to 2016 and, since then, in accordance with the criteria in the “Guía para la elaboración de memorias de sostenibilidad de las Autoridades Portuarias” (“Guidelines for the Preparation of Port Authority Sustainability Reports”) published in 2017 by Puertos del Estado.

The sustainability reports supplement, from the social, environmental and economic perspective, the corporate reports of the port of A Coruña and, together with its Annual Accounts, reported by the General Intervention Board of the State Administration, they make up an annual accountability report describing all the significant aspects of the Port Authority's activities.
